Curly Q

I spent a lot of time sleeping in sponge rollers as a young girl. Special occasions are always more fun with curly hair, right?

Baby girl had school picture day today, and I thought, why not carry on the tradition?!

We did a trial run a few days ago, and she liked it so much we went ahead and put them in after her shower last night.

Before

After

She was very, very happy with the results.

This is her "model" pose.

Her words, not mine.

In two short weeks she will be turning 7.

We'll be taking her for her birthday pictures soon.

I can't wait to see the "model" poses for those!

Totally 80's

When you get asked to go to an 80's Prom, and you are, say, about 20 years out from your 80's prime, expect two things:

1. You will be shocked (shocked!) that nearly everything you need to relive your past is available, new, in stores now.

2. You will feel old.

I was really trying to go for a certain look. Maybe one that my parents would not have let me get away with when I was 16 years old. Kind of an "I am so totally going to the Bon Jovi concert tonight" look.

I think it went pretty well.

However, I was not prepared for the amount of time it would take to apply that much makeup and that much hairspray.

Dr. Dad was channeling his inner Sonny Crockett.

I dare you not to hum the theme to Miami Vice.

We did have a great time. We won the fill in the blank 80's song contest (only one wrong out of 100!). We had fun looking at all the wild outfits.

Unlike our actual Prom experiences, we were completely exhausted by 11:00 and could barely muster the strength to slow dance to "I've Had the Time of My Life."

And even though we have some fond memories of the 80's, we are pretty happy with our here and now.

Totally Awesome.

She's a Poet and Don't Know It

Last night I got back from a meeting to find Baby Girl had been busy writing.

This is the poem she wrote (with her spellings and punctuation):

He and She

(by Baby Girl, age 6)

He is packing up his Backpack.

She moved out of town,

Helen is on the Mokeybars,

& hangs up-sidedoune.

Max is In fist grade,

& he is at Luch.

Eating his cracker & Samwich,

Much! Much! Much!

First Day; Second Haircut

Baby Girl had her first day of First Grade yesterday. She was up very early and very excited.

We went to her open house the night before and she was very happy that several of her classmates from Kindergarten are in her new class.

Her teacher seems very nice and there is a class bunny so she feels right at home.

Of course, the first day she misplaced her lunchbox, so she was pretty bummed when she got off the bus. I promised her we would find it, and she felt better.

Then, she talked and talked about her class, her day and her friends. What a difference from last year, when we could barely get her to tell us anything she did! We can't wait to see what this year will hold for her.

On Monday, I took Baby Boy and Baby Girl for haircuts. She wants to grow her hair out, and so just wanted a trim.

But this guy...

Can really grow some hair!

I am going out to get some more hair gel, because this is one stylin' guy!
