Sometimes Your Mom Has to Remind You to Blog

Summer is over and we are back in the busy season of schedules and school. Sometimes I forget anyone else might read this blog and then my Mom will let me know she is expecting a new post and I realize I haven't written anything since July. Such is life.

Anyway. A few pictures for you, my faithful readers (all 2 of you).

We ended the Summer by surprising the kids when my Sister and her Husband (who have not seen the kiddos since last October's trip to Disney) came for a visit from California. The Girl was over the moon to say the least. She and my Sister are two of a kind. We miss them already.
Here is "Miss Thing" prepping for her future fame by borrowing her Aunt's shades and shoes. Should I be worried?
And of course, First day of Fourth Grade. How did that happen? I am not even sure how I am going to handle her turning 10 in a few short weeks.

The Boy has been busy covering our driveway, sidewalks, front porch and inside our garage with his "people." This is a drawing of him and his Sister. Notice she has ponytails...none of the people usually have arms. He says it's because their hands are in their pockets. Genius.
He's also been busy saving the world. Not sure from what...but he does enjoy dressing up and jumping off of things. I still think he makes a better "Danger Boy" than a "Superman."
And here it is. First day of Preschool. Actually, they moved him to Pre-K. Theoretically he could go to Kindergarten next fall. I can't even talk about that. But, my gosh, he LOVES school. It makes us so happy to see how much he enjoys learning and playing at his school.

The Dog is not sure how she feels about all this change. The first few days she was pretty mopey.
Now The Dog and The Cat are in a pretty good routine. Synchronized napping.

That's it for now. Expect a hugely sappy post coming up when The Girl turns 10.

Spring Break 2012 Day One

I have been educated in the way of the agenda. Apparently, things go better when you plan ahead (who knew?!). I had big plans for The Girl and her Spring Break. But thanks to stupid gas prices and money in general, we opted for a "Staycation." This is just a fancy way of saying "we are finding cheap stuff to do around here."

However, I wasn't leaving this to endless questions of "what are we doing today, this week, this hour" so I posted a list of what we were going to do this week and so far, so good.

Day one was a visit to the Zoo. Thankfully free thanks to our Zoo Membership. Oh, except for the snacks I got talked into since they were STARVING after walking SO FAR (emphasis theirs, not mine).

I'll keep you posted on the rest of our week! Of course today The Boy has been up since 7 am so let's all pray for the addition of NAP to the agenda today...

Potty

It's like a light bulb of potty understanding came on in his little three year old head.

After wondering if he would ever try...and spending several days running around naked (him, not us) he marched himself right in the bathroom and went potty.

Who knew?

Bowl-A-Rama

When the Girl has a day off of school...we hit the lanes.
The Boy did great, the Girl did even better.
All I can say is I am thankful for bumpers...gutter balls would have been a disaster.

Three

At Three Years Old You Can:

Spell your name
Count to "twentyteen"
Ride your scooter
Snuggle with your sister
Annoy your sister
Refuse to be potty trained
Play with your best friends Zach, Carter and Liam
Jump like Superman into the pool
Watch endless hours of "Peep and the Big Wide World"
Be brave when you get a cast on your arm
Cry when they take the cast off
Sleep in a crib
Exist on only hot dogs and fries
Almost sit through a whole movie in a movie theater
Refuse to nap
Refuse to go to sleep at night
Love your cat
Love your "Meemo" fish
Love "Racecar"

Love everyone.

Happy Birthday to our love!

Broken

It started out to be such a fun day...celebrating the 4th of July and the Birthday of our niece.

Then, adventure boy took a little tumble on a rope bridge and that was that.

We certainly are no strangers to broken bones (sadly). His sister was just slightly older than he is now when she broke her arm (coincidentally, her right arm as well). Of course she opted for pink.

Then we were only a week out from his birth when break number two happened. That one was a little worse, and involved pins. (This time, she chose purple.)

And can I just say here that whoever invented waterproof casts deserves a Nobel Peace Prize? Because we have had both types in this house and the waterproof is so awesome I still don't know how we all did it with the other kind.

At any rate, Baby Boy has been a real trouper, but I will be very happy when we (hopefully) get it off this Friday. Just a day after his Birthday. Happy Day for all!

And please, Lord, no more trips to the ER...if it weren't for hair coloring I would be totally grey by now.

The Edge of Three

You are so charming, little man, that it is becoming increasingly difficult to be stern with you. I am afraid of what you are going to be getting away with...

When I ask you to do something, you rebel so politely.

"It's time to go to bed" gets "No thank you."

"You need a diaper change" leads to "I'm fine, thank you."

You spend most of the time finding "grils" (girls) to chat up. More than once you have sidled up to a young lady and introduced yourself with a "How you doin'" and sometimes you ask for her number. It took me a few times to realize you were asking her age. Either way, if this is a preview of your future, people will need to lock up their daughters.

You've been in more time outs in your 2 short years than your sister has been in all 8 of hers. There is nothing like getting pulled aside at a meeting to be told your son has been sent to run around the gym because he needs to get "some of that energy out."

You've run away from me too many times to count. Once you got so far away from me at the Macy's that I had a nervous breakdown and was just about to call in a code red when I heard my name announced over the loudspeaker. You had made friends with the lady in Fine Jewelry and knew enough to tell her my first name and your first name. However, by the time I got there you told her that your name was really Patrick (your middle name) and she still thinks that is your name.

However.

I live to hear you talk and the funny things you say. Listening to you sing "Life is a Highway" or ask for "lotsem snacks" or the way you can recite almost the entire "Cars" movie and how you can sound amazingly like Mater...you are a special joy.

I see you growing up too fast, so fast...

It's not as often these days, but sometimes, I get a glimpse of the baby you once were. When you want to cuddle or be held...when you catch a nap in the car. Maybe you can stay my little baby a while longer...

Pixie Power

I have a very opinionated daughter. She knows what she wants and she isn't afraid to take fashion risks.

In the span of 4 months her hair went from this:
To this:
To this:
If anyone could pull off a pixie cut...it's her!

She looks like a supermodel!
But don't tell her that...
She's a Pixie!

Pirate, Farmer Girl, Ladybug, Cinderella, Dancing Cow

Some people need costume options...

...and some people are content to just be the cow.

Really, really, content to be the cow.

Things I Don't Want to Forget

The way you say "I hold you Mommy" when you want me to pick you up.

The way you scrunch up your face when you try and look angry.

The way you sing "Tonight's Gonna be a Good Night" at the top of your lungs.

The way you ask us "You happy?" when you think we might not look so happy.

The way you have to sleep with blue blanket, other blanket, Scout the dog, and a race car in each hand.

The way you say "See you later" when you leave the room.

The way you exclaim "It's Pink!" when we ask you what color something is.

The way you laugh hysterically at the dog, even if she is just sleeping.

The way you love dinosaurs, trains, cars, planes, and, for whatever reason, Tinkerbell.

The way you get excited about everything, especially when your Daddy comes home from work.

The way you scream "CHICKEL FRIZES" each and every time we pass a fast food establishment.

The way you walk like a duck while saying "quack, quack."
